The part out loud: “We want innovation.” The silent part: “As long as nothing goes wrong.”
As we launch into 2025, one aspect is crystal clear. We must develop an Inception Mindset to anticipate what’s coming down the pipeline and innovate accordingly. To support the development of our Inception Mindset, we ought to reframe what failure is, as the only free cheese is in the mouse trap. It doesn’t mean accepting failures without accountability for careless acts.
Meaningful innovation, whether in processes, programs, functions, products, or services, inherently involves uncertainty, experimentation, and the possibility of failure. Are stability, predictability, and short-term success more desirable than the longer-term benefits of creative breakthroughs? Innovation is not an all-or-nothing proposition; it must be incubated first.
Innovation thrives in organizations willing to embrace uncertainty, learn from mistakes, and see every “failure” as a step closer to creating extraordinary value for the greatest number of stakeholders.

Embarking on a journey of personal and professional development often prompts us to ponder, “Where am I right now?” This introspection is akin to navigating a sprawling shopping mall in search of a specific store. When we encounter a map, the ‘You Are Here’ marker, though it doesn’t lead us directly to our destination, provides essential guidance.
Similarly, the Inception Mindset™ Inventory acts as a navigational aid in the vast landscape of self-improvement. It doesn’t define who we are but illuminates our current position, empowering us to chart a path toward our aspirational selves.
With an Inception Mindset™, we equip ourselves to navigate the unprecedented complexity of our times more effectively.
